Information sign 6 - The Hazel Plantation

This small plantation of Hazel trees is a wonderful habitat for small mammals.  Field and wood mice, voles and possibly even dormice.  The Friends Conservation Volunteers have been coppicing the plantation to keep it healthy, let in light, encourage new growth and provide a great environment for wildflowers, birds, insects as well as the small mammals.  The crop of poles is cut to suitable lengths for gads and spars for thatching.
