NEW ENGLAND WOOD an Ancient Woodland
31st July 2015 - path complete
The path through New England Wood is now complete. Take a look at the photos and a virtual walk from Edwards Hall fields, into the park, along the new path, and back again. Thanks to RDC for searching out the grant, applying for it and being awarded enough funding to provide a path suitable for all users.

13th July 2015 - a path through the wood
RDC have received grant funding that will enable them to improve access to those parts of the park that are Ancient Woodland. That means New England Wood, and work starts this week to construct a surfaced pathway from the east end of the wood, where the two metal pillars are, through to the narrow end of New England Wood, where it joins across the shallow ditch into the woodland adjoining Grove Wood. This will improve access for all users.
Coppicing has begun - September 8th 2014
We are delighted to let you know that coppicing in New England Wood has begun. Friends of Cherry Orchard Park have been urging RDC to carry out this vital work to what is an Ancient Woodland. It will let in more light and allow ground cover to flourish again. We should see more wildlife, birds and bluebells now that the wood is part of a managed coppicing programme. All good news!
What is coppicing. Find out here.
