A Pet Memorial Garden

You may be surprised to learn that six and a half acres of the Country Park have been fenced off in order to provide a Pet Memorial Garden for the residents of Rochford.  Unfortunately nobody asked the residents if they wanted it.  £25,000 was allocated to the garden from the Country Park's own budget.

The Pet Memorial Garden is seen as a revenue producer for Rochford District Council.  Any revenue will not go back to the park but to Rochford DC general income budget.

The Friends of Cherry Orchard Park have been protesting the placing of the PMG in the Country Park and the fact that members of our group were not consulted before decisions were made.

Now, with a new Portfolio Holder for the Environment in position some changes are being made.
  • The actual Memorial area will be smaller, in the corner of the site nearest the car park.
  • The rest of the site will become a wild flower meadow.
  • Additional shrubs and plants will be introduced into the surrounding plantations to provide a butterfly and moth sanctuary.
  • A low memorial wall will be built on which plaques can be placed in memory of pets.
  • Current spending on the PMG is £8,000 and there will be very little more.

It's not too late to have your say regarding the new plans above.
