Information sign 17 - through the plantation.

This is one of the original plantations. Planted when the park was being laid out in 2002 with a high forest mix of ash, oak and hornbeam.
The wide path through the plantation (known as a 'ride') is gently curved to provide an environment with gentle breezes that will encourage insect life and, in particular, butterflies.   In the winter this path is a useful route from Pooh Sticks Bridge to the meadow when the stream-side path becomes flooded and every effort to improve it is regularly washed away.    The path will be improved to accommodate a slightly greater footfall.
